Healing Through the Oral-Systemic Connection: Dr. Theresa Rodeghero’s Biological Vision in Bye Ol’ Dentistry

  • 3 min read

Dr. Theresa Rodeghero, DMD, is a biological dentist who believes the mouth is far more than a site of mechanical repair. It is a gateway to systemic health. Her work centers on the oral-systemic connection, inflammation awareness, and biocompatibility, positioning dentistry as an integral component of long-term wellness rather than an isolated intervention. This philosophy aligns closely with the mission of “Bye Ol’ Dentistry,” the Lolli Brands Entertainment documentary that challenges outdated dental models and elevates biologically informed care.

“Bye Ol’ Dentistry” explores how oral infections, incompatible materials, and chronic inflammation can influence whole-body health. Through practitioner insight and patient stories, the film calls for a shift toward dentistry that respects biology and supports systemic balance. Dr. Rodeghero’s clinical approach reflects this evolution, emphasizing that healing begins by addressing root contributors rather than managing symptoms alone.

A Foundation in Both Conventional and Biological Dentistry

Dr. Rodeghero earned her dental degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she built a strong foundation in conventional dental science and diagnostics. During her education, she also studied biological dentistry under the mentorship of her father, who transitioned his own practice from traditional to biologic care more than fifteen years ago. This dual exposure shaped her ability to evaluate materials, techniques, and outcomes through both scientific rigor and systems-based reasoning.

Dentistry had long been part of her life. Having worked in her father’s practice for many years before dental school, she gained early insight into patient relationships and the lasting impact dental care can have on comfort, confidence, and quality of life.

A Personal Experience That Deepened Her Clinical Conviction

A defining moment in Dr. Rodeghero’s journey came through her own health challenge. After struggling with a frozen shoulder for over two years and undergoing extensive physical therapy without resolution, she received biologically guided dental treatment performed by her father. Following the procedure, she regained full use of her arm. The experience reinforced her understanding of the oral-systemic connection and the role unresolved oral inflammation can play in chronic conditions. From that point forward, dentistry became not only her profession but her platform for facilitating deeper healing.

Advanced Training in Biological and Regenerative Care

After graduation, Dr. Rodeghero pursued extensive postgraduate education in biologic and regenerative dentistry. She has completed advanced training in biological implantology and is currently completing a Maxi Residency in Biological Dentistry at Tufts University, a comprehensive program emphasizing surgical integration and whole-body health models. Her clinical training includes zirconia implant placement, reflecting her commitment to metal-free solutions that support reduced inflammatory burden and long-term physiologic balance.

She has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education and is fully trained in platelet-rich fibrin therapy, ozone applications, and laser dentistry. As an active member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology and the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine, she remains dedicated to toxicology awareness, biocompatible standards, and lifelong professional development.

A Biocompatible, Inflammation-Aware Treatment Philosophy

Dr. Rodeghero’s clinical philosophy is grounded in the belief that true healing requires identifying and addressing contributors to chronic inflammation. Her care model emphasizes metal-free dentistry, exclusive placement of zirconia implants, safe mercury removal protocols, fluoride-free options, and the careful selection of biocompatible materials. Each treatment decision is evaluated not only for mechanical success, but for its impact on immune balance, nervous system regulation, and overall physiologic harmony.

She collaborates closely with integrative and functional medical providers, supporting patients with complex or chronic health concerns through comprehensive evaluation and coordinated care. Her approach prioritizes transparency, patient education, and individualized planning, recognizing that no two health journeys are identical.

Advancing the Future of Biological Dentistry

Dr. Rodeghero’s participation in “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” reflects her belief that dentistry is undergoing a necessary transformation. As scientific understanding of the oral-systemic connection expands, she believes the standard of care must evolve beyond mechanical intervention toward biologically informed, system-aware treatment.

For Dr. Theresa Rodeghero, biological dentistry is not a niche philosophy but the next phase of modern dental care. Through her work and her contribution to the documentary, she advocates for a future in which biocompatible materials, inflammation awareness, and medical collaboration become foundational elements of dental practice. Her mission remains consistent: restore balance, reduce inflammatory burden, and honor the body’s innate capacity to heal.
