Healing Through the Nervous System: Dr. Carli Axford’s Vision for Human Transformation

Dr. Carli Axford has spent more than three decades exploring a question that sits at the center of her life’s work: what if the body already knows how to heal itself? A chiropractor, healer, educator, and founder of the Spinal Flow Technique, her work focuses on the relationship between the spine, the nervous system, stress, trauma, and the body’s innate healing intelligence.

That philosophy forms the foundation of her contribution to The New Woo, a feature-length documentary from Lolli Brands Entertainment exploring consciousness, healing, energy, and the emerging science behind human transformation. Through her work, Dr. Axford brings a perspective grounded in both chiropractic science and holistic healing traditions, offering insight into how stored stress and trauma influence the body, mind, and emotional wellbeing.

A Healing Philosophy Built on Connection

Dr. Axford’s journey began in chiropractic science, training with respected teachers around the world, including institutions such as the Texas Back Institute. Her studies later expanded into Eastern healing traditions during time spent living and studying in India.

Across decades of clinical experience, one principle consistently emerged: the body, mind, and heart are not separate systems, but deeply interconnected aspects of human health.

Her work explores how unresolved stress and trauma become stored within the body, often manifesting as chronic pain, anxiety, exhaustion, tension, and emotional disconnection. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, her approach focuses on helping the nervous system release those stored patterns so the body can return to a more natural state of balance and flow.

At the center of this philosophy is the belief that healing is not something imposed from the outside, but something the body already carries within itself when the right conditions are created.

The Development of the Spinal Flow Technique

The culmination of Dr. Axford’s work is the Spinal Flow Technique, a modality she developed over more than 30 years working in chiropractic and healing.

The technique works gently with the spine and nervous system to identify and release blockages caused by stored stress and trauma. Through this process, practitioners aim to restore what Dr. Axford describes as the body’s natural flow — supporting physical, emotional, and neurological healing.

What began as a personal clinical approach has grown into an international movement, now practiced by thousands of certified practitioners across the world.

For Dr. Axford, the work extends beyond individual healing sessions. A major focus of her mission is training practitioners and helping others carry the work into their own communities.

“There is nothing more beautiful than watching someone learn this work and then take it back to their own community,” she explains. “Every practitioner I train means more hands, more hearts, and more people getting to feel at home in their body again.”

Building a Global Healing Community

A central part of Dr. Axford’s work is education and practitioner training through the Spinal Flow Certification Program. The program attracts chiropractors, bodyworkers, healers, teachers, parents, and individuals who feel called toward healing work themselves.

Her growing practitioner network now spans countries around the world, creating what she describes as a global healing community united by the shared intention of helping people reconnect with their bodies and lives.

Her upcoming book, Awaken Your Spinal Flow, scheduled for release through Hay House in 2027, expands on these teachings in a practical and accessible format. The companion course, Spinal Flow Foundations, is designed to help readers deepen their understanding of the work and, for some, begin the journey toward becoming practitioners themselves.

Alongside this, Dr. Axford founded the Free To Be She Foundation, a global initiative bringing together healers and practitioners from multiple disciplines with the mission of making healing accessible to people carrying deep emotional and physical trauma, regardless of financial circumstances.

The foundation’s mission — one million healers helping one million people heal — reflects the broader humanitarian vision behind her work.

Healing, Trauma, and the Future of Wellness

At the core of Dr. Axford’s expertise is the relationship between stress, trauma, and the nervous system. Her work examines where trauma is stored in the body, how it affects physical and emotional wellbeing, and what conditions allow that stress to finally release.

She describes the spine as a place where the body stores the story of a person’s life, and the nervous system as the pathway through which those stories can move, process, and heal.

Her appearance in The New Woo reflects a growing global interest in approaches that bridge science, nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and holistic wellness. As conversations around trauma, stress, and human potential continue evolving, her work contributes to a wider exploration of how healing may occur when people reconnect with the intelligence of their own bodies.

For Dr. Axford, that mission is deeply personal.

“I wanted to be part of The New Woo so the ones who feel stuck can finally know what I know,” she says. “That healing is not somewhere else, and they are not the exception.”
