Dr. Scott A. Siegel, MD, DDS, FACS, FICS, FAAP, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon whose career spans more than 25 years in private practice. With dual medical and dental degrees, Dr. Siegel holds fellowships with the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, and is notably the first oral and maxillofacial surgeon awarded fellowship to the American Academy of Pediatrics. His dedication to improving patient care has earned him recognition across both medical and dental communities.

Produced by Anthony and TereZa Lolli of Lolli Brands Entertainment, “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” is a global documentary that blends expert perspectives with patient stories to highlight dentistry’s role in whole-body health. By exposing outdated practices and spotlighting forward-thinking approaches, the film shows how pioneers like Dr. Siegel are reshaping the field for future generations.

Pioneering Treatment for Tethered Oral Tissues

For more than two decades, Dr. Siegel has specialized in the laser surgical treatment of tethered oral tissues (TOTs)—commonly known as tongue-tie, lip-tie, and cheek-tie. Long before these conditions were widely recognized, he was treating patients with advanced laser technology, performing over 30,000 procedures to date. His work has demonstrated that untreated TOTs can cause lifelong challenges, from feeding and speech difficulties to orthodontic issues, poor airway development, and even obstructive sleep apnea. By addressing these conditions early and effectively, Dr. Siegel has helped patients—from infants to adults—feed, breathe, sleep, and thrive.

Education, Research, and Leadership

Beyond clinical care, Dr. Siegel is committed to education and research. He lectures internationally, sharing his expertise with colleagues in both medicine and dentistry, and has published studies on TOTs and related aerodigestive disorders. His pioneering work on Aerophagia Induced Reflux (AIR), which uses ultrasound to study tongue motility before and after frenotomy, has broadened understanding of the systemic effects of tethered oral tissues. He continues to advocate for the inclusion of TOTs education and treatment protocols in dental and medical curricula worldwide.

A Patient-Centered Philosophy

What sets Dr. Siegel apart is his collaborative, human-centered approach. He emphasizes listening to patients and developing individualized treatment plans that prioritize their experiences and goals. By moving beyond rigid conventions and working across disciplines, he has improved outcomes for thousands of patients. For Dr. Siegel, true innovation comes from both scientific rigor and compassion.

Why “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” Matters

Dr. Siegel’s participation in “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” reflects his belief that dentistry must evolve to meet the biological and systemic needs of patients. The film, which was shot across multiple continents, highlights the work of practitioners who are challenging outdated models and offering safer, evidence-based alternatives. By featuring Dr. Siegel’s decades of expertise in tethered oral tissue treatment, it underscores the urgent need for a broader recognition of how oral structures affect overall health.

“Being a doctor who listens to my patients rather than just speak at them has changed the way I practice,”  Dr. Siegel shares.

“Being able to work on individual treatment plans that involve my patients input and guidance to have a shared responsibility for care rather than having an ego stepping in the way dismissing their complaints as ‘normal’ has made it a natural fit for choosing to be in the documentary “Bye Ol’ Dentistry.”
