Dr. María Fernanda Ramírez: Championing Regenerative and Biological Dentistry

Updated: Oct 2, 2025

In the landscape of modern dentistry, few practitioners embody the fusion of science, compassion, and innovation as clearly as Dr. María Fernanda Ramírez. With a career rooted in multidisciplinary education and a commitment to advancing biological dentistry, she represents a new generation of dental leaders. Her work aligns seamlessly with the vision of “Bye Ol’ Dentistry,” the international documentary produced by Anthony and TereZa Lolli of Lolli Brands Entertainment.

Blending expert voices with patient stories, the film spotlights dentistry’s impact on whole-body wellness. By exposing outdated practices and highlighting biological solutions, it seeks to inspire a global movement toward safer, regenerative care—making Dr. Ramírez’s participation both timely and essential.

Early Education and Training

Dr. María Fernanda Ramírez is a Costa Rican dentist whose career represents the fusion of rigorous academic training, clinical expertise, and an unwavering passion for biological and regenerative dentistry. Her journey into dentistry began with her graduation as a general dentist in 2014, followed by an early recognition that dental medicine had to evolve beyond conventional approaches.

Her professional growth is anchored in a multidisciplinary education. In 2018, she completed an MBA at UCLA, equipping her with a unique perspective on healthcare leadership and clinical management. She then earned a Master’s in Clinical Administration, allowing her to combine scientific knowledge with organizational strategy to create patient-centered systems of care.

Expanding her clinical capabilities, she pursued a Master’s in Aesthetic Rehabilitation in Spain, where she honed her expertise in restoring smiles with precision and artistry.

Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s in Medical Neuroscience, which reflects her deep interest in the relationship between oral health, the nervous system, and systemic well-being. This advanced training reinforces her holistic view of dentistry: that the mouth cannot be separated from the health of the entire body.

Balancing Career and Family

Alongside her professional life, Dr. Ramírez is the proud mother of two children, Samantha and Tomás, and wife of Alejandro Barrios. Her role as a mother has profoundly influenced her philosophy of care, making her approach both highly technical and deeply compassionate. She strives to see each patient not merely as a case, but as a whole person with unique needs, emotions, and aspirations.

Focus on Biological Dentistry

Since 2020, Dr. Ramírez has devoted her practice exclusively to Biological Dentistry, aligning herself with the growing global movement that seeks safer, more regenerative, and biologically respectful alternatives to traditional dentistry. She is also an active member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), a world-renowned institution that advocates for biocompatible and evidence-based protocols.

  • Regenerative Biological Dentistry – focusing on treatments that stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms to restore oral and systemic health.

  • SMART-Certified Amalgam Removal – following the most advanced protocols to safely remove mercury amalgam fillings, protecting patients from toxic exposure.

  • Aesthetic and Functional Rehabilitation zirconia implants – designing smiles that balance beauty, health, and proper function, creating results that are as sustainable as they are attractive.

She also works closely with Dr. Fernández and Dr. Mora, collaborating within a multidisciplinary team that integrates surgical, biological, and regenerative expertise. This teamwork allows patients to benefit from comprehensive treatment plans that go beyond traditional dentistry, blending cutting-edge science with holistic approaches.

Her motivation to participate stems from three key dimensions:

  • As a clinician, she believes patients deserve treatments that do not compromise their overall health. Traditional dentistry has often relied on materials and techniques that, while functional, can introduce long-term biological risks. Her mission is to offer solutions that heal, regenerate, and protect systemic health rather than compromise it.

  • As a researcher and innovator, she is passionate about advancing biological dentistry through continuous learning, scientific collaboration, and innovation. For her, “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” is not just a platform to showcase existing protocols, but also an opportunity to expand the global conversation and push the boundaries of what dentistry can achieve.

  • As a mother and woman, she feels a responsibility to advocate for safer, non-toxic, and regenerative practices that protect not only today’s patients, but also future generations. Her personal journey as a parent has heightened her awareness of how medical and dental choices impact long-term wellness.

Why “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” Matters

Filmed across multiple countries, “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” brings together global pioneers who are rethinking dental care from the ground up. By blending science, patient testimony, and practitioner insight, it highlights how dentistry is inseparable from systemic health. The film positions biological dentistry not as an alternative, but as the future.

For Dr. Ramírez, participation in the film is a natural extension of her mission. She views the project as a chance to amplify her message of regenerative, patient-first care to a worldwide audience.

“Dentistry can no longer be defined by quick fixes and toxic materials. It must evolve into a discipline that respects biology, safeguards the human body, and restores not only smiles, but overall health and confidence,” she explains. “This is why I am honored to contribute to the vision of Bye Ol’ Dentistry.”

Through her voice and practice, she hopes to inspire patients, families, and practitioners to embrace safer, smarter, and more holistic approaches.
