A Journey Back to Music
Mei-Lan's relationship with music has been anything but conventional. Although she had a background in singing as a child, she stepped away from music for over a decade. "I had a long period—about 13 or 14 years—where I didn’t sing at all," she revealed. However, during a time of personal anxiety and emotional overwhelm, she turned to meditation for solace.
"As I went deeper into meditation, I felt this calling back to music, but in a different way—one that was about frequency, healing, and connection rather than performance," she said. It was in this space of stillness that she discovered the power of sound as a vehicle for transformation. "Music called me back, and when I surrendered to it, everything changed."
The Science of Sound Healing
For skeptics who may see sound healing as "woo-woo," Mei-Lan offers a biological and scientific perspective. "Sound is vibration, and every vibration emits a frequency," she explained. "When we use our own voice, our body recognizes that vibration—it moves through our cells, harmonizing and restoring balance."
Different frequencies serve different purposes. "Lower tones are grounding, helping us feel stable and safe, while higher frequencies are elevating, opening up new emotional and spiritual awareness."
Studies have shown that music can stimulate neural pathways, release dopamine, and even promote cellular repair. "Music is not just something we hear—it’s something we feel at a physiological level."

Music as an Emotional Healer
One of the most profound aspects of Mei-Lan’s work is the emotional healing it provides. "When I sing, I set the intention to move out of the way, allowing whatever is needed for the listener to come through," she said.
Her audience members often report powerful emotional releases. "Music is the language of the soul. It bypasses the thinking mind and goes straight to the heart, breaking through barriers of trauma, pain, and fear. When we connect to our heart, true healing can begin."
The Role of Women in Healing
Mei-Lan believes that women have a unique connection to intuitive and emotional wisdom. "Women are naturally intuitive, but when we ignore our inner voice—whether due to societal pressure or life responsibilities—we fall out of balance, and that affects our health."
She also acknowledges the emotional labor women carry. "Women are nurturers, constantly giving to others. But if we don’t replenish ourselves, we become depleted. Music can be a way for women to reconnect with themselves, to pour back into their own well-being."
Using Your Own Voice for Healing
While listening to healing music is beneficial, Mei-Lan encourages people to explore their own voice as a tool for self-healing. "So many women feel restricted in speaking their truth. But sound is a powerful release—just humming or vocalizing simple tones can help unblock stuck emotions."
She shared a simple practice: "Start with a gentle hum. Then allow yourself to vocalize an ‘ah’ sound. Feel the vibration move through your body. Over time, this can help open up emotional pathways and create a sense of liberation."
Creating Music with Purpose
Unlike most mainstream music, which is often driven by commercial success, Mei-Lan’s creative process is entirely heart-led. "My goal isn’t to make a hit song—it’s to create something that resonates at a deep level and serves a higher purpose."
Her latest album, Rise, was an experiment in blending healing frequencies with more rhythmic, uplifting melodies. "I wanted to create something that people could engage with—not just meditate to, but sing along with, dance to, and feel empowered by."
She recalled the rapid creation of the album: "I had never written songs before, but when I surrendered to the process, the music just flowed. In one month, we had an entire album. It was a divine experience."

Protecting the Voice as a Sacred Instrument
For Mei-Lan, her voice is not just an artistic tool—it is an instrument of healing, one that must be nurtured and protected. "Speaking can actually be more damaging to the vocal cords than singing," she noted. "Long hours of talking strain the vocal cords, so I practice speaking softly and using head tones to keep my voice agile."
She emphasized the importance of rest: "Vocal cords are like any other muscle—they need recovery time. Proper hydration, rest, and vocal exercises are crucial to maintaining vocal health."
The Future of Healing Music
Mei-Lan sees her work as part of a larger movement towards conscious music. "We have to ask ourselves: What are we programming our minds with? What are we feeding our children? Music shapes our thoughts and emotions—so why not choose music that elevates us?"
She hopes to see more artists create music with intention. "As artists, we have a responsibility. Music is one of the most powerful tools for shaping collective consciousness. It should inspire, heal, and uplift."

A Message of Hope for Women
When asked about her message for women, Mei-Lan’s response was simple yet profound: "This is our time to rise."
She encourages women to reclaim their power, their voice, and their intuition. "We have been conditioned to shrink, to silence ourselves, to put others before us. But it’s time to step into our full expression—without fear, without apology."
Her music serves as a vehicle for that empowerment. "When we sing, when we allow ourselves to be heard, we are reclaiming space in the world. And that is a deeply healing act."
The Transformative Power of Music
Mei-Lan’s work is a testament to the profound impact that sound can have on the human spirit. Whether through listening or vocalizing, she believes that music holds the key to deep healing and transformation. "Music is not just entertainment—it’s medicine. And we all have access to its healing power."
Through her artistry, Mei-Lan is not just creating songs—she is creating a movement, one that invites people to reconnect with their true essence and embrace the healing potential of sound.
