And Female Health Optimization

Kayla Barnes-Lentz, founder of LYV The Wellness Space, host of the Longevity Optimization Podcast, and co-founder of the Health Optimization Fund, is at the forefront of female health and longevity. With a deep passion for cutting-edge biohacking and evidence-based wellness strategies, she is dedicated to empowering women to take control of their health. Barnes-Lentz sat down with TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli and Anthony Lolli, Editors-in-Chief of longevity and wellness platform Biohack Yourself, for an interview for the influential upcoming women’s health documentary, “sHEALed,” to share her personal journey, groundbreaking insights on female health, and the lifestyle practices that fuel her mission to optimize longevity.
The sHEALed Documentary is the sister documentary to Biohack Yourself, which became a massive success after exploding on the scene in December 2024 and ignited a firestorm of interest in information focused on health and longevity. Biohack Yourself features 114 prominent and respected high-profile politicians, doctors, bestselling authors, Ph.D.s, M.D.s, scientists, chemists, inventors, biotech investors, and world-renowned academics. Stemming from the success of Biohack Yourself, TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli and Anthony Lolli have grown Biohack Yourself Media to become the number one resource for health news, publishing over 500 articles ranging from breaking news to peer reviewed content.
From the Standard American Diet to Biohacking Expert
Barnes-Lentz’s journey into longevity and wellness began with a personal transformation. "I grew up on the standard American diet and didn’t come from much," she shared. "I wanted a different life, and I realized that optimizing my brain and body was key to reaching my goals."
Starting with simple nutritional tweaks in college, she soon delved into the world of advanced longevity practices, including hyperbaric chambers, ozone saunas, and NAD therapy. But it was five years ago, when preparing to open her clinic, that she immersed herself in biometrics, imaging, and deep data analysis. "I had access to clinical studies, cutting-edge research, and conversations with top scientists. That’s when I realized how much was missing in female health."
Why Women Need Their Own Longevity Protocols
Barnes-Lentz quickly noticed a major flaw in the health and biohacking industry: most protocols were designed by men, for men. "I was following extreme cold plunging protocols, and I watched my thyroid levels decline and my hormones become imbalanced," she revealed. "Women are not just smaller men. We need our own approach."
To address this gap, she formed a team of female PhDs to scan all available literature on women’s health. She also launched a podcast focused on topics like ovarian aging, hormone health, and toxic burden, uncovering the stark reality that women’s health research only became mandatory in clinical trials in the early 1990s.
Her approach involves testing thousands of biomarkers every quarter, including:
Ovarian ultrasounds
Full-body MRIs
Soft plaque analysis for cardiovascular health
Hormone panels
Gut microbiome and toxic burden assessments
By openly sharing her results and protocols, she aims to help other women optimize their health in a data-driven, medically verified way.

The Science of Selecting a Life Partner
Barnes-Lentz takes health optimization beyond personal well-being—she applied it to choosing a life partner. "Being married is the best biohack I’ve ever done," she laughed. "Having a sense of safety and security as a woman does wonders for your nervous system."
From the outset, she made her health priorities clear. "When I met my husband, I asked for his lab work right away," she revealed. "He sent me his most recent executive physical, and while it had decent data, I requested additional tests: a gut test, genetic test, total toxic burden, and 200 more biomarkers."
Her reasoning was simple: "We exchange microbiomes with our partners. If you want children, their health will be shaped by your choice of partner."
She introduced him to biohacking from their very first date, which included a multi-person hyperbaric oxygen chamber session, an ozone sauna treatment, and an air purifier delivery to his home. "If he wasn’t on board, I knew it wouldn’t work. But he loved it! He even proposed within months."
Preparing for Motherhood: The Ultimate Biohack
As Barnes-Lentz and her husband prepare for parenthood, she is pushing the boundaries of prenatal health optimization. "Our children inherit my microbiome and mitochondria, so I’ve made it a priority to optimize my labs before conceiving."
Her preconception protocol includes:
Gut health testing with a practitioner-grade GI Effects test
Mitochondrial support with red light therapy, sauna, and cycle-synced cold plunging
Strict Mediterranean diet, rich in healthy fats like avocado and olive oil
Ovarian health optimization, using stem cells and rapamycin to potentially extend reproductive longevity
Total Toxic Burden lab testing, to ensure minimal exposure to environmental toxins
Her husband follows a similar protocol, with a gut cleanse, detox, and targeted supplements to naturally raise testosterone (from 500 to 916) and improve sperm health.
"We track everything—our sleep, HRV, inflammation levels, and hormone panels—so we can create the healthiest possible start for our future children."

Building a Future of Healthy Families
While Barnes-Lentz embraces high-tech wellness practices, she stresses that raising children in a biologically supportive environment is just as important. "We have a hyperbaric chamber, PEMF, red light therapy, multiple saunas, and IV nurses—but I want my kids to play in the dirt, eat real food, and avoid excess screen time."
Her plan for future parenting includes:
Minimal technology exposure and red-light filtering for screens
Outdoor play to support microbiome diversity
High-quality, whole-food nutrition to optimize brain development
Circadian biology optimization, including morning sunlight and sleep hygiene
Longevity for Every Woman: Where to Start
Barnes-Lentz acknowledges that wellness can feel overwhelming, but she encourages women to start with the basics:
Prioritize sleep: "Go to bed early and wake up with the sun. Circadian rhythm is key."
Ditch processed foods: "Every meal is either healing or harming your body. Choose wisely."
Learn your cycle: "Track your menstrual cycle and adjust your workouts and diet accordingly."
Detox your home: "Filter your water, avoid synthetic fragrances, and opt for non-toxic personal care products."
Move daily: "Muscle mass is key for longevity, especially as we approach menopause."

A Call for Systemic Change in Women’s Health
Barnes-Lentz is passionate about reforming the food, healthcare, and wellness industries. "Women are living longer but suffering more chronic diseases. We shouldn’t have to be full-time researchers to be healthy."
She points out that:
Only 6% of Americans are metabolically healthy
Women absorb double the toxins that men do due to makeup, skincare, and fragrances
Regulations on food and personal care products are decades behind other countries
"We need a healthcare system built for prevention and optimization, not just disease management."
Women Deserve Better
"You deserve to feel incredible, and you can," Barnes-Lentz emphasized. "Find people who understand female health and learn from them. Your best health is within reach."
Through her clinic, podcast, and female longevity group, she is paving the way for science-backed, female-focused health optimization—one biomarker at a time.
