British TV host Davina McCall has undergone a successful brain surgery for a "very rare" tumor.
The 57-year-old celebrity is out of the Intensive Care Unit after undergoing a craniotomy on Sunday to remove the colloid cyst in her brain. McCall's boyfriend, Michael, shared the update on Instagram, adding the TV personality has made "mega progress."
"She really has made an enormous leap forward in the last 24 hours. She is out of ICU She is 'loving awareness,'" Michael posted on McCall's Instagram account.
A craniotomy is a procedure wherein a part of the skull is temporarily removed, exposing the brain, and allowing surgeons to access and treat a part of the brain, the National Library of Medicine explained.
The "Big Brother U.K." host shared the news about her condition on Friday. In the video posted on Instagram, McCall said that doctors found the "very rare" 14mm-wide colloid cyst while taking a health scan she thought she would "ace."
A colloid cyst is a benign, fluid-filled sac that grows in the brain's third ventricle, a section deep in the brain, near the middle of the head, Columbia Neurosurgery explained. Colloid cysts are rare and makeup only 2% of all diagnosed brain tumors.
McCall, who seemed in good spirits while filming the clip, will be spending about nine days in the hospital before going home to continue her recovery. However, she promised that Michael would continue updating fans about her condition.
McCall is an award-winning host, best known for her work as the host of "Big Brother U.K.", "The Biggest Loser," and "Long Lost Family."
