Danielle Fishel is opening up about her struggles with cancer treatment.
The "Boy Meets World" actress got candid about her bout with cancer and her 20-round radiation treatment on the Monday episode of her podcast, "Pod Meets World." Fishel revealed that she's "officially done" with treatment, but she's dealing with the side effects that come with it.
"I am officially done with radiation," the 43-year-old actress told her co-hosts and former co-stars, Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
She detailed that she's undergone 15 rounds of whole breast radiation and then another five rounds of targeted radiation, which focuses on the area where the cancer is present.
Radiation therapy is a common type of cancer treatment that uses high-energy radiation to kill cancer cells by damaging their DNA, inhibiting their ability to grow and divide.
While the actress shared that the treatment was "relatively easy," she did admit that she's suffering from the side effects of the long cycle.
"Boy, I am feeling the effects...Physically, I have a very bad sunburn," Fishel shared.
"Hurts to wear a bra, hurts to not wear a bra. It just hurts to sleep on my side, hurts to sleep, period. Hurts to be awake," she added, pointing out that it could get "very itchy" but she can't scratch it.
Fishel, best known for her role as Topanga in the 90s series, acknowledged that the cancer treatment left her "really very stinking tired."
In August 2024, Fishel announced her ductal carcinoma in situ diagnosis. DCIS is an early form of breast cancer wherein the cancer cells are confined in the milk ducts and have not spread into the breast tissue, the Mayo Clinic explained.
About 2 million people were diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. in 2024. Approximately 310,000 women and 2,700 men had breast cancer, the most common cancer diagnosis, the National Cancer Institute noted.
