Natalie and Billy Ledbetter's journey into the world of biohacking is a tale of relentless passion, profound dedication, and an unyielding commitment to revolutionize health and wellness. The couple sat down with Anthony Lolli and TereZa Lolli during the Biohack Yourself Documentary to share how their journey into the world of biohacking began when they realized the limitations of traditional western medicine.

Natalie, a seasoned nurse anesthetist with over 27 years of experience, saw these limitations early in her career. "There were a lot of holes in people's health," she recalls in the Biohack Yourself Documentary. This realization drove her to pursue a doctorate in Chinese medicine, opening new avenues to help her patients achieve true wellness. Her focus on coaching menopausal and perimenopausal women reflects her deep empathy and understanding of their unique health challenges.

Billy's path was similarly transformative. Trained as a traditional allopathic physician, he found the sick care model unfulfilling and misaligned with his vision of true healthcare. "The sick care model that was existent when I trained just never resonated with me," he said in the Biohack Yourself Documentary. His journey into holistic health began over 30 years ago, diving into what we now call functional medicine long before it was widely recognized.

Billy’s experience in the Navy, where he provided IV therapy to sailors, laid the groundwork for their current ventures. Although the technology of IV therapy has evolved, Billy notes that the fundamental principles of nutrition remain unchanged. His dedication intensified during his time in the Navy, where their daughter developed gut health issues. This personal experience was a pivotal moment, steering both Natalie and Billy towards the world of biohacking.

“I was flying jets for the Navy at the time and we started down another health road because our daughter had an issue with her gut,” Dr. Billy Ledbetter said on the Biohack Yourself Documentary. “Dug deep into that to try to fix her gut health and that sort of led us down the road to biohacking. We got introduced to the biohacking world about eight or nine years ago and that resonated with both of us.”

Their approach is not just about treating illnesses but about empowering individuals to achieve optimal health and vitality. This shared vision led to their latest endeavor: opening Upgrade Labs in Austin. Here, they aim to help people become super healthy, maximally healthy in minimal amounts of time, an ambitious goal driven by their recognition of the fast-paced lives many lead today.

"It makes sense to really focus on health instead of sickness," Billy explains, in the Biohack Yourself Documentary. “[Western Medicine] is still sick care. Yes, it puts food on the table and it pays the bills, but it's not right in my opinion.” The biohacking gym is designed to maximize health and fitness for busy individuals. With Dave Asprey's influence, Upgrade Labs offers advanced technologies like AI-driven fitness equipment and cryotherapy chambers providing significant health benefits in minimal time.

This led them to incorporate advanced health technologies into their practices, offering cutting-edge biohacking solutions through their med spa, L-Aesthetics. Their franchise expansion plans aim to make biohacking technologies more accessible, offering customized routines and unique devices like the oxygen trainer, brain trainer, and red light therapy. This approach sets them apart in the biohacking industry, emphasizing holistic wellness and personalized care.

“You get the same metabolic and cardiovascular benefits, as well as the recovery part of it in much less time than spending time in a gym,” Dr. Billy Ledbetter said in the Biohack Yourself Documentary.

Mitochondria's role in energy production and its relevance to overall health is another key focus area. The mitochondria's job is to move electrons, creating ATP, which is the energy currency of the body. Red light therapy, in particular, has shown promise in boosting mitochondrial function.
