John Graham Harper, CEO of LumaFlex, is on a mission to make red light therapy accessible and mainstream. Introducing two innovative products, the Body Pro and the Essential, Harper aims to provide natural pain management solutions. The Body Pro, a flexible, portable, durable, and waterproof red and infrared light therapy panel, is designed to treat various parts of the body, addressing chronic pain without the need for drugs.
Harper sat down with Anthony Lolli and TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli on the Biohack Yourself Documentary to talk about how his journey into red light therapy began through personal experience with sports injuries. A former rugby player, his career was cut short by severe shoulder injuries. Transitioning to CrossFit, Harper encountered knee injuries from intense training, and as an amateur boxer, he suffered head trauma leading to a tumor.
“My left knee was the one that mentally and physically broke me, because you can't walk,” Harper said on the Biohack Yourself Documentary. “Not being able to walk, not being able to exercise, you feel like you're missing. You're not at your optimal self.”
After surgery, he turned to bodybuilding, participating in six competitions over five months, despite being advised against it. This demanding endeavor showcased his dedication, but bodybuilding lacked the competitive edge he found in rugby and boxing.
Struggling with a persistent knee injury, Harper found relief through red light therapy, introduced by his wife. Initially skeptical, he used a cumbersome red light lamp, but within a week, his pain subsided. This experience sparked his interest in red light therapy, leading him to discover its longstanding use in the biohacking community. Recognizing the need for more accessible and affordable devices, he developed LumaFlex.

“After a week, I didn't have any more pain,” Harper explained on the Biohack Yourself Documentary. “And how I knew I didn't have any more pain is because usually this seated position, usually I couldn't maintain a seated position like this for more than 10 minutes.”
LumaFlex’s Body Pro features a built-in 10-minute timer, enhancing treatment efficiency and convenience. The device comes with two detachable batteries for continuous use, especially beneficial for physiotherapists and athletes. Priced at $689, with a more affordable model, the Lumaflex Essential, at $399, these devices offer life-changing benefits, from pain relief to overall well-being.
“My goal with Lumaflex is to mainstream red light therapy and make it accessible to anyone,” Harper said on the Biohack Yourself Documentary. “There's a lot of devices that are masks or certain devices for beauty but it's very specific. So this is the same red and infrared light technology with a panel that you can put anywhere on your body, whether it be your chest or shoulder. The best way to communicate red light therapy, coming from a very intense competitive background, is using it for pain management.”

The Body Pro also connects via Bluetooth, syncing with devices like Apple Watch for heart rate monitoring during activities such as ice baths and meditation. Harper mentioned, "Matching my heartbeat, this is good because you're able to get, you know, this you can have for meditation." This feature is particularly useful for those who practice cold plunges, as it helps monitor and optimize their body's response to the therapy.
Harper envisions mainstreaming red light therapy, making it the first-line treatment for conditions like lower back pain. He advocates for a holistic approach to health, combining red light therapy with a healthy lifestyle. "You need good sleep. You need to have, you know, clean, clean water every day," Harper emphasized.

Harper's dedication to democratizing healthcare through accessible biohacking tools aims to empower individuals to take control of their health, promoting natural healing methods over medication. He believes in the potential of red light therapy to become a standard care practice, significantly reducing dependency on pain medication and invasive treatments.
In conclusion, John Graham Harper's LumaFlex is revolutionizing the biohacking space with innovative, accessible red light therapy solutions. By integrating these therapies into daily routines and promoting a holistic approach to health, Harper is paving the way for a future where natural, non-invasive treatments are readily available to all.
