When Dr. Stephanie Canestraro's promising chiropractic career was nearly derailed by a mysterious health crisis, her relentless pursuit of answers not only saved her life but also transformed her approach to healthcare. Her journey from patient to pioneering practitioner is a testament to her dedication and resilience, and it has allowed her to revolutionize the way she helps others facing similar struggles.
Dr. Stephanie’s academic journey began at the University of Western Ontario, where she earned an Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. She later graduated with Honors from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and completed courses in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture at McMaster University. She even spent years teaching Biomedical Dry Needling. Despite her impressive background, her early career was disrupted by a serious and debilitating health crisis.
She shared her story with Anthony Lolli and TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli in the "Biohack Yourself" documentary. Shortly after starting her chiropractic practice, Dr. Stephanie began experiencing severe and baffling health issues.
“I explain it as if I was hijacked. Severe anxiety came over me, like panic. Like you want to jump out of your skin. Then the days following turned into muscle fasciculations, the feeling of bugs crawling all over me, my hair falling out in chunks. I even had Bell's palsy. My face was paralyzed for a few days. I was in and out of the ER, not knowing what was going on.”
Initially tentatively diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, she found no effective treatment. It wasn’t until later that she discovered the true cause of her symptoms: Lyme disease, which had severely affected her brain. This health crisis led Dr. Stephanie to explore functional medicine—a field that seeks to address the root causes of health issues rather than just treating symptoms. Inspired by Dr. Terry Wahls, who managed her own multiple sclerosis with diet and lifestyle changes, Dr. Stephanie embarked on a journey of self-healing. She adjusted her diet, performed parasite cleanses, and gradually started to feel better. She also discovered she had celiac disease, which further influenced her approach to health.

These experiences dramatically changed how Dr. Stephanie practices health care today. She became certified in functional medicine and joined the prestigious Institute for Functional Medicine Practitioner (IFMCP) group. However, she emphasizes that much of her knowledge comes from being on the front lines, working with mentors, and continuously learning to better serve her patients and herself. She now combines chiropractic care with functional medicine, employing techniques such as acupuncture, specialized soft tissue techniques, and a unique Deep Lymphatic treatment—a course she is currently developing to train other practitioners. Additionally, she utilizes comprehensive testing, biohacks, targeted supplementation, Vagus Nerve treatments, diets, and lifestyle modifications to help her patients achieve optimal health.

Dr. Stephanie’s expertise has attracted elite athletes, including players and their families from the NHL, NFL, and MLS leagues. Her focus areas include stealth infections leading to cardiovascular vulnerability, neurological diseases, and digestive disorders and any other complex chronic symptom patterns similar to her own.
Beyond treating patients, Dr. Stephanie is also a dedicated educator. She is currently creating a course focused on deep lymphatics and its critical role in healing (COMING SOON). Through this course, she is empowering both practitioners and individuals with chronic illnesses to take control of their own health, extending the reach of her innovative methods.

Dr. Stephanie’s dedication to healing has already made a profound impact. “We've had kids who were having severe seizures, and I said, we're doing this. And that girl has now had three weeks with no seizures, no drop attacks. She's 13 and able to live her childhood again. Lyme may not kill you, but it can make you want to kill yourself. I’m using this terrible thing that happened to me, and because my story could help that little girl, that's powerful.”
