THE HIDDEN POWER OF HEALING
It Starts Long Before Treatment

Chiropractors have always understood when and how healing truly begins. As a hands-on profession, we hug, we touch, and we listen. It’s no coincidence that doctors with poor bedside manners often struggle with treatment success. The truth is, healing begins long before a patient steps into the treatment room.
Healing starts the moment someone in need of care connects with another person—whether it’s someone who has experienced treatment or knows the doctor personally. In that instant, the subconscious mind starts believing, “This person will help me heal.” Hormones are released, hope ignites, and the healing process begins. And they haven’t even made the call to the office for an appointment yet!

The next crucial step is the phone call to the office. The tone and attitude of the staff can either nurture or disrupt healing. A smile on the other end of the line, a warm, upbeat voice—these extend the healing process. A cold, flat tone can stall it.
When the patient arrives at the office, the environment and attitude of the staff set the stage for treatment. I always tell my team: Your demeanor prepares the patient for my care. A calm, attentive, and friendly staff silently reassures the patient, “You’re in the right place, and you’re going to be okay.”

But if the office is cold or the staff indifferent, healing is hindered. Worse still, when patients are met by staff hiding behind frosted glass, healing isn’t just stalled—it’s reversed. Such an atmosphere reactivates the fight-or-flight response, sabotaging any progress.
In my practice, we live by a simple mantra: Eye to eye, heart to heart, soul to soul. This means my staff is always standing, smiling, and listening. By doing this, we foster an environment where the patient feels safe and ready to heal.

By the time the patient sees me, they’re already in a healing state. My role then follows the same principle: Eye to eye, heart to heart, soul to soul. When I and my staff genuinely care, even the simplest touch—on the shoulder, a hug, a handshake—transfers positive energy to the patient. While some may dismiss this as mystical, I pity any healthcare provider who doesn’t understand it. There’s undeniable power in touch, connection, and empathy.
I see it every day. When my staff is focused and compassionate, my treatments flow smoothly. On the rare off day, I can sense the struggle in my work—the energy isn’t there.
