Have you noticed how midlife looks so different for us than it did for our moms? Back in the 1980s, the stars of The Golden Girls were in their early 60s, but frankly, they looked and acted much older. Fast forward to today, and the women of Sex and the City are in their early 60s, but they’re still vibrant, sexy, and very much in the prime of their lives.
Midlife in 2024 is a whole new vibe. The phrase “50 is the new 30” rings true in so many ways. Our 50s and 60s are now about being youthful, sexy, beautiful, empowered, wise, and bold. But sometimes, hormones, wrinkles, grey hairs, and belly bloat make us feel more like one of the Golden Girls when we’re aiming to channel those SATC vibes. No shade to the Golden Girls—I LOVE them! But today, many of us resonate more with Charlotte than Blanche.
Let’s be real—midlife isn’t easy. We’re starting to feel invisible in a world that worships youth. For us Gen X women, it’s especially tough. We grew up in the 70s and 80s when our worth was tied to our looks. Diet culture was everywhere, and we spent years chasing the perfect body. Now, midlife has yanked the rug out, leaving us questioning our worth in a culture obsessed with youth and beauty.

We’re hit with two extreme choices as we age: fight it with Botox, hair dye, and tummy tucks, or let it all go and “age gracefully.” But here’s the kicker—both paths can leave us feeling depressed, anxious, and isolated, struggling to find our identity in a world that still worships youth.
But how do we break free from this dilemma of wanting to look good, feel good, and still see our true value in midlife? Can 50 be the new 30, without it just being about our looks? Here’s the secret: You have to create it. Midlife in 2024 is a whole new vibe—one where you finally embrace that you are so much more than just your looks.

Step #1: Decide to Define Midlife on Your Terms. It all starts with a decision. You get to choose what midlife looks like, and that choice shapes your reality. Embrace the energy of your youth with the wisdom you’ve earned. It’s your call—let midlife reflect what authentically feels right to you.
Step #2: Vision—Dream Big! What would you create if anything were possible? Close your eyes and picture your dream life. How do you want to look and feel in midlife? What do you want to spend most of your time doing? What’s on your heart? This is your moment. Get clear on what you truly want. If you could make midlife your best era yet, what would it look like?
Step #3: Take Action—Let’s Make It Happen! You’ve earned your midlife wisdom through every mistake, misstep, and lesson learned in your 20s, 30s, and 40s. Wear that wisdom like a badge of honor! Ready to turn that vision into your reality? It’s all about taking one step at a time! Just like climbing Mount Everest, the small, consistent steps get you to the top. Keep taking action toward your goals. Before you know it, you’ll be living your wildest dreams.
