When we talk about optimizing health, we often focus on gut healing,  fasting, mitochondrial support, and nervous system regulation. But very few people consider a critical—and often toxic—part of the body that affects all these systems: the mouth.

As a biological dentist and periodontist, my mission is to help patients detoxify their mouths from metals and microbes, which silently drive inflammation and disease throughout the body. In our Beverly Hills practice, I developed a proprietary protocol called the Full Mouth

Detoxification, a multi-step approach that targets the oral-systemic root causes of imbalance. At the center of it all is the Oral Microbiome Reset—a powerful, non-invasive technique that begins the body’s healing journey from the mouth outward.

Step 1: The Oral Microbiome Reset

Just like your gut has a microbiome, your mouth has one too, made up of over 700 species of bacteria that influence digestion, brain health, immunity, and systemic inflammation. However, daily exposure to antibacterial mouthwashes,  fluoride, mercury, and processed food can create oral dysbiosis, where harmful bacteria dominate and release toxins into the bloodstream.

Our Oral Microbiome Reset technique is the first step in healing.  Performed in-office using Swiss Airflow® technology, ozone therapy, and lasers, this gentle yet effective method thoroughly detoxifies the gums, tongue,  and oral tissues without surgery. It targets pathogenic bacteria while preserving and encouraging the growth of beneficial microbes.

Think of it as a deep, cellular cleanse for your mouth—laying the groundwork for long-term systemic health. Our patients experience decreased brain fog and inflammation post-procedure.

Step 2: Removing Metals from Teeth and Gums

The next stage in Full Mouth Detoxification involves the safe removal of metal-based dental materials, especially mercury amalgam fillings and metal crowns. These materials can leach toxic metals like mercury and nickel into the body for years, disrupting the endocrine and nervous systems and accumulating in the liver, kidneys, and brain.

Even more concerning is what we find in the gums—gray or black staining, which is actually mercury embedded in the tissue. Most patients don’t realize those dark spots aren’t natural pigmentation, but signs of heavy metal deposits that must be removed for true detoxification.

Our practice follows IAOMT SMART protocols to safely extract these metals, protecting the patient and our team with high-volume evacuation, rubber dams, and clean air systems.

Step 3: Removing Hidden Infections in the Jawbone

The third and often overlooked step is the removal of microbial nests buried deep in the jawbone. These are typically found in:

  • Infected root canals, where dead tissue harbors anaerobic bacteria

  • Cavitations, which are pockets of infection and necrotic bone left behind  after tooth extractions

A cavitation (or NICO lesion) forms when a tooth is removed but the surrounding bone doesn't heal properly, leaving a hollow space that becomes a reservoir for harmful bacteria and toxins. These areas can interfere with energy production, immune balance, and neurological function.

We use advanced imaging to detect cavitations and perform minimally invasive surgery to clean and regenerate these areas using ozone, lasers, PRF  (platelet-rich fibrin), and peptide therapies.

Step 4: Sleep, The Forgotten Detox Organ

The final step in the Full Mouth Detoxification process is perhaps the most essential: sleep. If we aren’t sleeping well, our glymphatic system can’t effectively detoxify the brain or repair the body overnight.

That’s why we screen every patient for airway and sleep quality, using PNOĒ metabolic breath analysis, digital imaging, and lifestyle assessments. We also offer NightLase®, a non-surgical laser therapy that gently tightens collagen in the airway to improve nighttime breathing.

Sleep isn’t just about feeling rested—it’s the cornerstone of healing and detoxification. Without it, no amount of oral care will fully restore vitality.

Whole-Body Healing Starts in the Mouth

If you’ve tried every cleanse, every supplement, and every biohacking protocol but you still feel inflamed, fatigued, or foggy, it might be time to look inside your mouth. The microbes you carry, the toxic metals in your fillings, and the quality of your sleep all have direct consequences on your overall health.

Our Full Mouth Detoxification program was born from a desire to help patients truly heal, starting with their smile and reaching deep into their biology. For more insights, I invite you to listen to The Holistic Dentistry Show, my podcast where we dive deep into the science behind biological dentistry, oral systemic health, and how to take control of your wellness journey from the roots up.

Because healing your body begins with healing your mouth.
