In 2022, I was approached by the CEO of Aires Tech to conduct a test of their electromagnetic field (EMF) mitigation devices. I knew why they were contacting me, as my company – NeuroField – had been researching and developing pEMF products for over 15 years. We understood how pEMF, at low intensity and slow frequency, can be healthy for the body. The gentle frequency of the Earth is good for you, and many books have been written about healing modalities that mimic the Earth’s EMF field.

It makes sense that we have evolved as a species in this way. However, when the intensity of EMF is high and the frequency is very fast, EMF can be harmful and destructive to the person. As cell phones evolved, many of my colleagues began observing changes in our patients that appeared to be associated with prolonged cell phone use.

I remember the work of Dr. Eric Pepper from San Francisco State University, who theorized years ago that repeatedly holding a cell phone up to your ear for long periods of time could damage cells in the brain. This is because a cell phone generates very fast EMF square wave fields that are of a high enough intensity to heat up and damage the cells in the brain. Shortly after that observation was made, MRI research substantiated the observations showing that the temporal lobes could be damaged from long exposure to a cell phone over time.

Needless to say, this created a great deal of concern that propagated the desire to find protection from EMF. After all, this technology was not going away. The cell phone, computer, internet, and the wide variety of technology that we use on a daily basis are only going to grow and become more sophisticated.

The quest to find EMF protection began a long time ago. Over the years, I have seen many EMF “mitigation” devices that simply did not work for a wide variety of reasons. The claims made by these companies were never substantiated by any form of reasonable science that

I was aware of. NeuroField practitioners would tell me about a new device or protection that claimed to reduce the harmful effects of EMF, and since we had our own EMF generator at NeuroField, I would “test” these products to see if the impact was reduced.

The co-founder of NeuroField, Brad Wiitala, was a radio frequency engineer. He said that only certain metals could mitigate EMF, and they were typically used by the military. He would know; he worked for the military for over 20 years. Together, we looked at these products and did not find anything that was able to protect a person from EMF.

In 2022, I met Josh Bruni, the CEO of Aires Tech, to conduct the test of the Aires device at a Hollywood film studio. Needless to say, being asked to test their device on film made me very nervous. When Josh hired me to conduct the experiments, he sent me research papers conducted by Aires Tech that claimed to reduce harmful EMF. The papers were peer-reviewed and well-written. So, I decided to engage in the project. I made it clear that my reputation as a scientist was imperative to uphold, and that I would only engage in this experiment provided that the truth was reported. Josh wholeheartedly agreed to that and was very respectful of any concerns that I raised in the process.

I was skeptical. Very skeptical. I was asked to replicate an experiment that Aires Tech had conducted in the past that observed brainwave responses to EMF. The generated hypothesis was that the brain would respond to EMF, and that changes could be observed immediately after the exposure. So, we conducted a very simple experiment that had three parts to it.

Part one required me to conduct a brainwave recording baseline using a 19-channel, FDA-cleared, electroencephalograph (EEG) that my company built. Once the baseline was collected, we called the person's phone and had them hold it up to their ear for 5 minutes.

Then we took away the phone and collected another EEG. Now we had one recorded baseline and another with cell phone exposure to conduct a comparison.

Then we called the person's phone one more time and had them hold it up to their ear for another five minutes. This time, however, we had an Aires Tech protection device attached to the phone. After five minutes, we ended the call, took away the phone, and collected another EEG. I conducted a comparative analysis of the data using a software called EEGLAB, which was developed at the Swartz Center for Computational Neuroscience at UC San Diego.

I was surprised by what I observed. From the baseline recording to the first exposure, the brain appeared to respond by generating more high beta and gamma wave activity. This suggested fast wave activation and is what we would see when the brain was “irritated” or inflamed. I was expecting to see even more high beta and gamma activity after the second “exposure,” but the opposite was observed. High beta and gamma activity reduced back down to normal levels of absolute power. Had I not conducted the experiment myself, I would have remained very skeptical about this observation. But I conducted the study, and I was able to verify that it was done correctly from beginning to end.

The only difference was the presence of the Aires Tech device on the phone. Something changed that mitigated the EMF. It is reasonable to suggest that Aires Tech’s device was responsible for this outcome. Over time, I would end up conducting the same experiment with many different people. The outcomes appear to be consistent. We have expanded the “test” to include event-related potentials, which are another kind of brainwave scan that is more precise and informative.

Lastly, we have been measuring cardiac responses as well, which have suggested the Aires Tech device has a calming effect on the autonomic nervous system. Plans are now being discussed to conduct this study in a controlled environment with a larger group of subjects to examine this phenomenon more closely. In my opinion, something is happening that has a stabilizing impact on the brain and the heart. If this is the case, then we need to understand it better. The implications for health and wellness in the digital age are extremely important to examine, as humans will continue to be exposed to EMF. Developing good, safe mitigation strategies is of the utmost importance.
