LATEST STORIES

For decades, Jane Hogan lived a life defined by logic, structure, and science. As a professional engineer, she built bridges, systems, and solutions. But it wasn’t until her own body began breaking down under the weight of stress and unresolved emotion that Hogan discovered the most important thing she would ever engineer: her own healing.

Now known as “The Wellness Engineer,” Hogan blends neuroscience, ancient spiritual practices, breathwork, and functional medicine to help others reverse chronic pain and become empowered creators of their health.

“Pain is not a punishment — it’s a message,” Hogan says in an interview with TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli and Anthony Lolli, Editors-in-Chief of longevity and wellness platform Biohack Yourself, for the influential upcoming women’s health documentary, “sHEALed.” “And when we learn to listen, we realize the body is guiding us toward healing.”

The sHEALed Documentary is the sister documentary to Biohack Yourself, which became a massive success after exploding on the scene in December 2024 and ignited a firestorm of interest in information focused on health and longevity. Biohack Yourself features 114 prominent and respected high-profile politicians, doctors, bestselling authors, Ph.D.s, M.D.s, scientists, chemists, inventors, biotech investors, and world-renowned academics. Stemming from the success of Biohack Yourself, TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli and Anthony Lolli have grown Biohack Yourself Media to become the number one resource for health news, publishing over 500 articles ranging from breaking news to peer reviewed content.

From Engineering to Empowerment

Hogan's life took an unexpected turn after a series of traumatic events. The sudden death of her mother, tension with siblings over an estate, and mounting stress pushed her nervous system to a breaking point. Within months, she was plagued by debilitating joint pain that traveled mysteriously throughout her body.

“It felt like someone had a voodoo doll of me,” she recalls. “I was in pain, I was exhausted, and I hit rock bottom.”

At her lowest point, Hogan heard a voice — not her own — say: This is not how your life is meant to turn out. You’re going to figure this out, and then teach others how to do it too.

That moment ignited a journey of healing that transformed her physically, emotionally, and spiritually — and led her to found The Wellness Engineer, a platform that now helps thousands of women escape the prison of chronic pain.

The Root of Chronic Pain: It's Not What You Think

Unlike acute pain, which arises from injury and typically resolves with rest, chronic pain is more complex and often misunderstood. Hogan explains that it's deeply linked to the nervous system and emotional memory.

“The brain can dial pain up or down — just like a volume knob,” she says. “When we’re stuck in fear, perfectionism, or unresolved trauma, the body stays in a protective mode. That’s when pain persists.”

She cites studies that show up to 85% of chronic pain can be reversed through retraining the brain and nervous system. Her method incorporates breathwork, visualization, and somatic awareness to help clients shift out of a stress response and into healing.

“When we regulate the nervous system, the immune system, digestion, and hormones begin to rebalance. That’s when healing starts,” she explains.

From Pain to Purpose

Hogan’s own diagnosis was rheumatoid arthritis — an autoimmune condition that could have condemned her to a lifetime of medications. Instead, she chose a different path.

She eliminated gluten and dairy and began seeing rapid improvement. But it wasn’t just diet. Through functional medicine, she discovered underlying gut imbalances like SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). Using herbs and lifestyle shifts, she cleared the infection — but something was still missing.

“I was better, but not healed,” she says. “That’s when I realized the missing piece was my nervous system — and the fear I was still carrying.”

When she began addressing the emotional roots — through breath, meditation, and visualization — the final pieces clicked into place.

Science Meets Spirit

Hogan’s methods blend rigorous science with spiritual practice. She teaches clients about neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to rewire itself — and uses quantum physics to explain how thoughts shape reality.

“Our thoughts become our biology,” she explains. “The subconscious mind runs the show. If it’s wired for fear and stress, the body stays sick. But we can rewire it.”

One of her go-to techniques is a visualization practice inspired by Dr. Joe Dispenza, where clients imagine living without pain and embody that feeling in the present moment.

“Your brain doesn’t know the difference between imagination and reality,” she says. “When you feel freedom, joy, or strength in your mind, your body starts to believe it — and behave accordingly.”

A Blueprint for Healing: The “DESIGN” Method

Hogan’s unique framework for healing is called the “DESIGN Blueprint,” with each letter representing a phase of the journey:

  • D – Desire: Get clear on your healing vision. What do you want to feel, do, and be without pain?

  • E – Explore: Investigate root causes — diet, trauma, toxic load, limiting beliefs.

  • S – Surrender: Let go of perfection and control. Allow the healing process to unfold.

  • I – Integrate: Apply small daily practices like breathwork, sleep, and affirmations.

  • G – Generate: Create new neural pathways and emotions aligned with health.

  • N – Navigate: Stay the course, using tools and community support to handle setbacks.

“It’s not about becoming someone new,” she says. “It’s about returning to who you really are, before the pain and the programming.”

The Nervous System Is the Key

So how do you know if your nervous system is dysregulated?

Hogan says you don’t have to wait for a diagnosis. Symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, digestive issues, and even hormonal imbalances often point to nervous system dysregulation.

“We live in a world that constantly keeps us in fight-or-flight,” she says. “From social media stress to unresolved childhood trauma, it all adds up.”

The solution? Simple, consistent tools that signal safety to the brain.

  • Breathwork: Slows the heart, regulates stress hormones, and creates calm.

  • Visualization: Rehearse the life you want — the brain will follow.

  • Movement: Gentle yoga, stretching, and even walking tell the body it’s safe.

  • Journaling: Helps process emotions and rewrite subconscious beliefs.

  • Affirmations: Rewire the inner narrative that controls your biology.

  • Community: Healing is amplified when you feel seen, supported, and understood.

A Community of Healing

Hogan now leads group coaching programs through her Wellness Engineer membership — a thriving online community where women support each other through healing. She finds that group settings offer unique benefits.

“When women share stories, wins, and struggles, something magical happens,” she says. “They realize they’re not alone. And that’s incredibly healing.”

She’s also the host of the Wellness by Design podcast and the forthcoming author of Pain Free on Purpose, a book designed to guide readers through her six-step blueprint.

A Turning Point in Women’s Health

As part of the women’s health documentary “sHEALed,” Hogan sees this moment as a turning point — for herself, for women, and for the world.

“This is a line in the sand,” she says. “There’s life before this, and life after. Once women realize they are the creators of their health, everything changes.”

She hopes women walk away from her story — and this film — with a renewed sense of power.

“You don’t need to wait for a diagnosis. You don’t need permission to heal. You have the tools, the power, and the wisdom inside you right now.”
