Dr. Caitlin Czezowski, a certified functional doctor and expert in lymphatic drainage, is on a mission to educate people about the critical role of the lymphatic system in overall health. In an exclusive interview with TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli and Anthony Lolli, Editors-in-Chief of longevity and wellness platform Biohack Yourself, for the influential upcoming women’s health documentary, “sHEALed,” she shared her journey into functional medicine, why lymphatic drainage is often overlooked, and how women, in particular, can benefit from supporting their body’s natural detox pathways.

The sHEALed Documentary is the sister documentary to Biohack Yourself, which became a massive success after exploding on the scene in December 2024 and ignited a firestorm of interest in information focused on health and longevity. Biohack Yourself features 114 prominent and respected high-profile politicians, doctors, bestselling authors, Ph.D.s, M.D.s, scientists, chemists, inventors, biotech investors, and world-renowned academics. Stemming from the success of Biohack Yourself, TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli and Anthony Lolli have grown Biohack Yourself Media to become the number one resource for health news, publishing over 500 articles ranging from breaking news to peer reviewed content.

How a Chiropractic Background Led to Functional Medicine

Dr. Czezowski's path into functional medicine wasn’t linear. Originally trained as a chiropractor, she quickly realized that many of her patients’ issues stemmed from something deeper. "I started seeing patterns—women coming in with chronic conditions that weren’t resolving with standard approaches. That led me to dive deeper into detoxification and drainage pathways."

She became widely known for her work in lymphatic drainage, earning her the nickname "The Lymph Doc" in online communities. "When you ask my followers what I do, they’ll tell you: she talks all about lymph. But really, it’s more than that. The lymphatic system is just one part of the body’s drainage network, and if we don’t support it, nothing else works properly."

Why the Lymphatic System Matters

The lymphatic system is responsible for clearing out toxins, waste, and excess fluid from the body. Unlike the cardiovascular system, which has the heart to pump blood, the lymphatic system has no pump—meaning it relies on movement, muscle contractions, and external stimulation to function properly.

"If you have a chronic condition, inflammation, or even an autoimmune disease, you likely have some level of lymphatic congestion," Dr. Czezowski explained. "Most people don’t even realize it, but when the lymph isn’t flowing, it can lead to everything from brain fog to bloating and chronic fatigue."

The Silent Signs of Lymphatic Congestion

Since there are no standard blood tests to diagnose lymphatic dysfunction, many people don’t realize they have an issue. "The best way to determine if your lymphatic system is congested is by looking at symptoms," she said.

Common signs include:

  • Swollen lymph nodes (in the neck, underarms, or groin)

  • Chronic sinus congestion

  • Puffy face and under-eye bags

  • Unexplained weight gain or bloating

  • Skin conditions like acne or eczema

  • Brain fog and sluggishness

  • Breast tenderness or fibrocystic breasts

"If you’re dealing with any of these symptoms, your lymphatic system is likely struggling. The good news is that with the right strategies, you can get things moving again."

Lymphatic Drainage Techniques Everyone Should Use

Dr. Czezowski shared several simple but effective ways to improve lymphatic flow at home:

  1. Rebounding (Mini-Trampoline Exercise): "Jumping on a rebounder for just 5-10 minutes a day can stimulate lymph flow better than almost anything else."

  2. Dry Brushing: "Using a dry brush before your shower, in the direction of lymphatic flow, helps open up drainage pathways."

  3. Gua Sha & Lymphatic Massage: "Gentle, feather-light strokes on the face and body help move lymph. The key is to be light—if you press too hard, you collapse the lymph vessels."

  4. Hydration & Electrolytes: "Lymph is mostly water. If you’re dehydrated, your lymphatic system won’t function properly. Add minerals like sea salt or trace minerals to your water for better absorption."

  5. Deep Breathing: "Diaphragmatic breathing acts as a natural pump for the deep lymphatic system. Try slow, deep belly breaths for a few minutes each day."

  6. Movement & Stretching: "Sedentary lifestyles are one of the worst things for lymphatic health. Walking, stretching, and yoga all help keep things moving."

Lymphatic Health & Hormonal Balance

One of the biggest revelations in Dr. Czezowski’s work is the connection between the lymphatic system and hormones. "Many women struggle with low progesterone, estrogen dominance, or thyroid issues, and they don’t realize that poor lymphatic drainage could be making things worse."

She explained that progesterone moves through the lymphatic system, so if the lymph is congested, hormone therapy or supplements may not work as expected. "If your drainage pathways aren’t open, it doesn’t matter how many hormone-balancing supplements you take—your body won’t utilize them properly."

Why Women Are More Prone to Lymphatic Issues

Dr. Czezowski emphasized that women are disproportionately affected by lymphatic congestion due to a variety of factors:

  • Tighter clothing (bras, shapewear, leggings) restricts lymph flow.

  • Hormonal fluctuations (menstrual cycles, pregnancy, menopause) impact fluid retention.

  • High-stress lifestyles keep women in a constant sympathetic (fight-or-flight) state, which impairs drainage.

"Most women are doing all the right things—eating clean, exercising—but if they’re not focusing on drainage, they won’t see the full benefits."

Scar Tissue & Lymphatic Blockages

Scars, whether from C-sections, surgeries, or injuries, can create adhesions that block lymphatic flow. "A scar is like a roadblock for your lymph. If you’ve had a C-section, tummy tuck, or any major surgery, you may need scar therapy to break up adhesions and restore flow."

She recommends:

  • Castor oil massage to soften scar tissue

  • Gua Sha or Graston techniques to break adhesions

  • Fascial stretching & cupping to release restrictions

The Future of Lymphatic Research

Despite its importance, lymphatic health is understudied. "There’s little research because there’s no pharmaceutical incentive. Supporting the lymphatic system isn’t about taking a pill—it’s about lifestyle changes," Dr. Czezowski explained.

She hopes future healthcare policies will prioritize preventative strategies, including education on lymphatic drainage and detoxification. "If we teach people how to take care of their lymphatic system, we can prevent so many chronic illnesses before they start."

Own Your Health

Dr. Czezowski’s ultimate message is that women are not powerless over their health. "You don’t have to accept chronic fatigue, brain fog, or hormonal imbalances as ‘just part of aging.’ The answers are out there. And sometimes, they’re simpler than you think."

She encourages women to become their own health advocates. "If your doctor isn’t addressing root causes, seek out functional medicine practitioners who will. And most importantly, start supporting your body’s natural detox pathways—because when you fix drainage, everything else starts working better."

Through her social media, online courses, and upcoming product line, Dr. Caitlin Czezowski is making lymphatic health accessible to everyone—proving that when it comes to wellness, sometimes the best medicine is simply getting things moving.
