Jamie Foxx Health Condition Revealed: Actor Suffered Near-Fatal Brain Bleed

Jamie Foxx is finally opening up about the mystery illness that kept him out of the spotlight and almost took his life last year.

In his new Netflix comedy special, "Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was...," the actor revealed that he had suffered from bleeding in his brain in April 2023.

"I was fighting for my life," an emotional Foxx said in the show that premiered on Dec. 10.

"April 11, I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for an aspirin...before I could get the aspirin...I went out. I don’t remember 20 days."

The brain bleed caused a stroke and without immediate surgery, doctors warned he could die.

The medical emergency left him in a coma for weeks amid the filming of his movie, "Back in Action," in Atlanta. Body doubles were brought in to complete the production, TMZ noted at the time.

A brain bleed, or intracranial hemorrhage, is a type of stroke that causes blood to pool between the brain and the skull. This causes pressure in the brain that prevents oxygen from reaching the organ, the Cleveland Clinic explained. The condition requires immediate treatment or it may be fatal.

Brain bleed symptoms include severe headache, weakness in the face, arm, or leg, nausea, vomiting, and possible loss of consciousness. Hemorrhagic stroke accounts for 13% of stroke cases, the American Stroke Association pointed out.

"On May 4, I woke up. When I woke up, I found myself in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk," Foxx added.

The actor has since made a full recovery. He thanked his sister, Deidra Dixon, for staying with him through his health ordeal and for saving his life.
