The FDA issued a report warning against hair loss drugs on Tuesday, that could be putting men at risk for a number of issues including “erectile dysfunction, anxiety, suicidal ideation, brain fog, depression, fatigue, insomnia, decreased libido and testicular pain.”
In total, about 32 reports were shared with these spray solution products between 2019 and 2024, all with the common ingredient finasteride. Currently, this is found in products from Hims, Keeps and Ro, Upi.com shared.
Even though there's flags raised about the sprays, there are pills that have finasteride in it that are approved for consumption like Propecia, which is reportedly FDA approved for hair loss solutions.
"There are no FDA-approved topical products with finasteride alone or in combination with other ingredients," the FDA states. "Consumers and health care providers have reported adverse events associated with the use of compounded topical finasteride products."
Furthermore, the FDA reccomends to consult with a doctor and learn about the risk of these products if they are going to be used.
