Airway, Biology, and the Future of Dentistry: Dr. Sachin Karande’s Vision in Bye Ol’ Dentistry

Dr. Sachin Karande, DDS, MBA, is a Columbia University–trained dental physician and the founder of Karande Biological Dentistry in Stafford, Virginia. His work sits at the intersection of airway science, regenerative biology, and whole-body physiology. Through this systems-based approach, he is helping redefine how dentistry contributes to long-term health. His participation in “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” reflects a broader shift within the profession toward root-cause diagnostics and biologically informed care.

“Bye Ol’ Dentistry” highlights the growing understanding that oral health influences systemic inflammation, breathing, sleep, and immune balance. Dr. Karande’s clinical philosophy aligns closely with this message. Rather than focusing solely on repairing damage, he seeks to understand why disease develops and how restoring structural and biological balance can support the body’s capacity to heal.

A Systems-Based Foundation in Dental Medicine

Dr. Karande earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, where the curriculum emphasized systemic pathology, inflammatory biology, and the oral-systemic connection. This medically oriented training shaped a diagnostic philosophy grounded in physiology rather than procedure-based dentistry.

He later completed advanced education at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, studying Integrative Biological Dental Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Pain, and Temporomandibular Disorders. These programs strengthened his focus on structural correction, immune regulation, and regenerative healing as essential elements of modern dental care.

Airway as a Biological Foundation

A central focus of Dr. Karande’s work is airway-centered dentistry. As a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, he studies how craniofacial structure and jaw position influence breathing, sleep physiology, autonomic regulation, and systemic recovery.

Using advanced CBCT imaging, neuromuscular analysis, and occlusal diagnostics, Dr. Karande identifies structural patterns that affect airway stability and restorative sleep. In this model, breathing is not merely a mechanical function but a regulator of nervous system balance, cardiovascular health, hormonal signaling, and cellular repair.

By addressing airway stability, his clinical approach aims to restore foundational physiologic balance that supports long-term health.

Research in Inflammation and Regenerative Biology

Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Karande has participated in research exploring the molecular biology of implant inflammation and tissue regeneration. His studies have investigated antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and its ability to stimulate epidermal growth factor gene expression, suggesting regenerative pathways that may improve healing in peri-implant tissues.

His research has also examined inflammatory signaling molecules involved in early implant complications, as well as the role of hypoxia-inducible factors in peri-implant inflammation. Additional work exploring microbial detection in the oral and respiratory tract highlights the oral cavity’s critical role in systemic microbial surveillance.

Together, these investigations reflect a broader interest in how molecular signaling, immune responses, and microbial ecology shape oral and systemic disease processes.

Regenerative and Biological Treatment Strategies

Dr. Karande is an Accredited Member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology and affiliated with the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine. His clinical protocols integrate regenerative therapies such as platelet-rich fibrin, ozone-assisted surgical care, ceramic implant systems, and immune-compatible biomaterials.

These biologically oriented techniques aim to support tissue regeneration, reduce inflammatory burden, and promote physiologic compatibility within modern dental treatment.

Integrating Ancient and Modern Healing Systems

Beyond contemporary biomedical science, Dr. Karande draws inspiration from Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine focused on systemic balance and preventive health. Concepts from Ayurveda, including inflammation regulation, nervous system balance, and structural harmony, parallel many modern discoveries in immunology and integrative medicine.

Practices such as breathwork and yoga inform his broader philosophy of restoring physiologic equilibrium and supporting resilience through both biological and behavioral approaches.

A Vision for the Future of Dentistry

Earlier in his career, Dr. Karande served as Dental Director at Western State Hospital in Virginia, where collaboration with physicians and psychiatrists reinforced the importance of viewing oral health within the broader context of systemic physiology.

His involvement in “Bye Ol’ Dentistry” reflects his belief that the profession is entering a transformative era. Airway science, regenerative medicine, and inflammation biology are beginning to reshape dentistry’s role within healthcare.

For Dr. Sachin Karande, when structure, breathing, and biology are brought into alignment, dentistry evolves beyond repair and becomes a pathway to restoring health, resilience, and human vitality.
