Daryl Mitchell on Energy, Presence, and Human Potential

Before he was a Qigong master, Daryl Mitchell was a rock guitarist.

After winning the Rebel Yell Queensland Guitar Competition, he found himself performing at the Australian nationals in front of Joe Walsh from the Eagles. Then he completely blew it.

Years later, he still laughs about it.

"Wish I'd known then what I know now. I could have been more Zen." But music was only meant to be one chapter of a much bigger journey.

As a child, Daryl lived with severe asthma, chronic allergies and persistent hives. His body was constantly reactive, and from an early age, he became interested in understanding why some people seemed to thrive while others struggled. At 21, after transforming his health through macrobiotic nutrition and holistic practice, that curiosity deepened into something more serious.

Training towards earning his black belt in Taekwondo, martial arts introduced him to another question entirely.

Early in his training, Daryl discovered he could perform a technique called the one-inch punch with surprising ease. While others saw a physical skill, he became fascinated by what was behind it. How could such power be generated with so little movement? What role did energy, intention and alignment play?

Those questions would shape the rest of his life. The experience challenged everything he thought he knew about human capability and sparked a lifelong quest to understand the forces behind it.

Looking back, he realised he had always been unusually sensitive to energy. As a child, he could sense things in people and environments that he couldn't explain. Years later, while training with one of his teachers at White Pagoda Temple, Beijing, that sensitivity was recognised when he demonstrated an ability to accurately read energetic patterns within the body and environment, and influence change through observation and presence.

His studies took him throughout China, Nepal, Thailand, Bali, Malaysia and Australia, learning directly from masters, monks and lineage holders. Along the way, he trained extensively in Qigong, Reiki, Kinesiology, Feng Shui and subtle energy diagnostics. He received direct transmission of Zhen Qi from Master Du Luo Yi, studied with Professor Dr Xu Hongtao, Master Zenghua Luo, and Professor Wang Yong Qiang, who received Tao transmission from Master Kao from Taiwan.

His spiritual training also extends into Tibetan Buddhist traditions, including the Compassion Buddha empowerment from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Medicine Buddha empowerment from His Holiness Shakya Trizin.

Since 1996, Daryl has worked professionally in the healing field. He founded a training college, led international study tours, mentored students across continents, and built a clinical practice supporting individuals through private sessions, retreats and group programs.

He has also tested himself physically. Everest Base Camp in 2009. Climbing Mount Kinabalu in 2004. Because presence under pressure is not something you theorise. You put yourself in conditions that demand it, and you find out what remains.

In the 1990s, he pioneered early energetic wellness products, work that would eventually evolve into ZEN KI Energy, the platform he co-founded with naturopath Leisa Blanch around a simple but powerful mission: Advancing Human Potential.

Today, ZEN KI Energy supports a growing international community seeking to navigate an overstimulating world, with greater clarity, resilience and vitality.

Sitting beneath that work is Presence Field Reset (PFR), a process Daryl developed, where he holds a stable qi field for the system to return to the active present, where past emotional imprints can naturally dissolve.

He rides motorbikes. Still loves hiking. Still vegetarian. He has a laugh. He once blew a guitar solo in front of a rock legend and turned it into a lifetime of asking deeper questions.

His participation in "Proof of Mind" reflects where this work has always been heading. Daryl has spent five decades at the edge of what mainstream culture is only now starting to ask about. How does the body store stress? What does it actually take to recover? What are we missing when we treat energy as a metaphor rather than a reality?
