Founder and CEO of Beam Hyperbarics, Samuel Womack, sat down with Anthony Lolli and TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli during the Biohack Yourself documentary to share the extraordinary health benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Imagine a vessel that resembles a sleek submarine. This is a hyperbaric chamber, where the magic of hyperbaric oxygen therapy happens. Inside, the user breathes pure oxygen through a mask while the body is subjected to increased atmospheric pressure. This pressurized environment significantly elevates oxygen levels in the blood plasma, reducing inflammation, boosting cellular energy, and accelerating healing. Originally developed for treating divers' decompression sickness, hyperbaric oxygen therapy’s therapeutic reach now extends to numerous injuries and health conditions, including anti-aging and brain health.

"If you use hyperbarics to help reduce inflammation, you're freeing up that extra energy to solve a bunch of other issues going on in your body," Womack said. "From a performance standpoint or a biohacking standpoint, it's also a foundational biohack because it affects the efficacy and the power and the impact of every other biohack imaginable."

Modern life bombards us with chronic stress, tipping the balance of our nervous systems toward a constant state of 'fight or flight.' Hyperbaric therapy can counteract this by promoting a parasympathetic state, or 'rest and digest,' reducing inflammation and enhancing overall relaxation. "Right? And peace can be so elusive when dopamine's always right there. And so with parasympathetic activating modalities alongside hyperbarics, we're providing peace. So not only a physical sense of peace," Womack emphasized.

While breathwork can increase oxygen intake, hyperbaric oxygen therapy achieves this more effectively and passively, thanks to the added pressure. "Hyperbarics as a foundational modality impact all of those and boosts them all because every biohack will perform better in the body in a state of lower inflammation and in a state where there's more cellular energy to carry out the effect," Womack noted.

Accessibility remains a hurdle due to the high cost of hyperbaric chambers. Fortunately, specialized clinics are becoming more common. "So there are clinics popping up all over the country and I'm really stoked about that because hyperbarics need to be made more accessible to people in general. And so the access point to hyperbarics is local," Womack shared.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy isn't just a luxury for top performers like Elon Musk or elite athletes; it holds promise for a wide range of conditions, including anti-aging and pain management. "Well, it's also anti-aging too. Like this is something right up your alley," Womack mentioned. Sessions typically last 60 to 90 minutes at pressures equivalent to being 15 feet underwater.

Personal stories highlight hyperbaric oxygen therapy’s transformative potential. Womack recounted their recovery from severe brain inflammation caused by an autoimmune reaction to corn, crediting hyperbaric oxygen therapy. "My brain was super inflamed and we figure out through blood tests that it's this aqua-corn molecule and corn that's causing this crazy brain inflammation. So I go on a really strict anti-inflammatory diet and exercise, and then also some peptides that I took as well," Womack explained.

For dramatic improvements in cognitive function and overall health, Womack shared, "And then I did hundreds of hours of hyperbarics. And I came out of that better, faster, stronger than ever in my life beforehand." In another heartwarming case, a brain-dead baby named Elijah showed remarkable recovery after hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions, underscoring the therapy's profound impact. "Like, what's our option? Like, every family should know that hyperbarics exist and that it is an option for their kids. And I know we're here to talk about biohacking, but if there's something that can bring life at that level," Womack stated in the Biohack Yourself Documentary.

Womack argues that hyperbaric oxygen therapy should be accessible to all, given its minimal risks and potential to combat chronic inflammation, a root cause of many health issues. "So our society is overrun with inflammation. Chronic disease is mostly inflammation-based, right? And so hyperbaric is a tool that reduces inflammation and then increases cellular energy. So, you have more energy and you have less pain, less inflammation," Womack explained. Despite systemic barriers in the medical field, there's a push for affordable, effective hyperbaric treatments.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy's potential benefits extend beyond just reducing inflammation. It can enhance brain health, support anti-aging, and improve pain management. For those interested in biohacking, hyperbarics provide a foundational biohack that boosts the efficacy of other biohacks. This therapy could also be a game-changer for conditions like autoimmune diseases, gut health, and sleep disorders.

Womack emphasized the importance of accessibility, stating, "Every family should know that hyperbarics exist and that it is an option for their kids." He believes that the broader adoption of hyperbaric oxygen therapy could lead to significant improvements in public health and well-being.
