From setting a new world record for living underwater to leveraging his extensive background and unique experiences, Dr. Joseph Dituri is on a mission to revolutionize hyperbaric medicine. Also known as “Dr. Deep Sea,” he has taken his PhD in biomedical engineering and a distinguished 28-year career as a Navy special operations officer to turn his focus to advancing medical science, particularly in traumatic brain injury and hyperbaric medicine.

Dr. Dituri sat down with Anthony Lolli and TereZa Hakobyan-Lolli during the Biohack Yourself documentary and shared that in an extraordinary experiment, he lived underwater for 100 days, conducting a myriad of tests on himself including blood, urine, and saliva analyses, as well as electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms, and pulmonary function tests.

This rigorous scientific regimen, which consumed seven to eight hours daily, yielded remarkable results.

“I started at 44, my epigenetic age at the end of 100 days ended up at 34. We're doing something right,” Dr. Dituri said in the Biohack Yourself Documentary. “We're going in the correct direction.”

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, which promotes healing. Dr. Dituri's research aims to expand HBOT's applications, exploring its potential in treating conditions like autism and Crohn's disease.

Dr. Dituri advocates for natural healing methods that minimize reliance on pharmaceuticals. HBOT, with its ability to enhance oxygen delivery to cells, represents a powerful tool in this approach. The therapy not only supports immediate recovery but also promotes long-term health benefits, such as lengthening telomeres—the protective caps on chromosomes that influence cellular aging and replication.

“This is the anti-aging drug. If you lengthen that telomere, it can make you live longer,” Dr. Dituri noted in the Biohack Yourself Documentary. “If you do hyperbaric medicine 60 times and walk away, you have 30%-33% more telomere length.”

Additionally, he educates physicians about HBOT, highlighting its broader therapeutic uses. By advancing HBOT and bridging knowledge gaps, Dr. Dituri is paving the way for natural, effective treatments and improved health outcomes.

“But that's the thing that I wanna do is bring that knowledge forth. I wanna steal the understanding of hyperbaric medicine and the mechanism of action for everybody's brain and get them to understand it,” Dr. Dituri said in the Biohack Yourself Documentary.

Dr. Dituri's work is driven by a vision of a future where hyperbaric medicine is widely understood and utilized to treat a broad spectrum of conditions naturally and effectively.
